Reptilians is the second full length from Portland band Starfucker (first being their self titled Starfucker). Reptilians starts off with the song “Born” that’s catchy as fuck and makes you want to instantly replay it when it’s done. Starfucker walk the line of being taken seriously as an indie band or just a juvenile band that has nice hooks and songs you can dance to. It’s easy to see why some people wouldn’t take a band with a name like Starfucker serious, but these songs are far from joking matter. “Mystery Cloud” is serious and deals with the thoughts of death with a man at the end saying things like: “I want you to wonder what it would be like to go to sleep and never wake up, ever”. Throughout the album there’s lot’s of upbeat synth beats that hide a dark underlying talk of death and such, like on “Bury Us Alive” there’s such lyrics as: “death will set me free”.  Then there’s songs that aren’t so synth infused like “Astoria”, where it talks about just wanting to have a simple life. Reptilians is a great dance album if you don’t pay attention to some of the lyrics, all the death stuff sorta kills the vibe. It’s a great album either way though, whether you want to dance to it or not.
